New Delhi . India is poised to become the world’s third largest economy in a few years as the country is currently at the take-off point. This was stated by NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam after the Governing Council meeting held on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while chairing the meeting, also urged all the stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities. Stating that the aspiration of a developed India is not the vision of an individual or a small group, it is the vision of India. Addressing the media after the eighth Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, Subrahmanyam said the theme was Developed India. Why was it chosen? Because India should be ready for next 25 years and we will be a developed nation in next 25 years. Why is developed India so important at this point? This is important, because India is at a moment of take off.
Subrahmanyam said that we are not only the largest country in terms of population, but also the fifth largest economy. Now coming in third place in a few years. He stressed that the demography is in our favor not only in terms of the total number of people but also in terms of the number of youth. India will have about 20 per cent of the world’s working age population in some, and it is going to be the largest provider of working age people between 28-29 for the next 20 years. He said that the time has come for India to make use of these opportunities.
Subrahmanyam said that the whole world is looking towards India and this is what the Prime Minister said. He asked all the Chief Ministers to go there and take advantage of the opportunities. He also emphasized on why developed India is relevant for the states as most of the action rests with the states to become a developed India, be it industry, water supply, electricity, health or education and This is where NITI Aayog plays an important role. Subrahmanyam said that in his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi talked about many things.
