New Delhi — : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on Saturday, marking a crucial national-level dialogue aimed at setting the foundation for transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The high-stakes meeting is expected to bring together Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and key Union Ministers, making it one of the most significant intergovernmental platforms under Modi’s leadership since Operation Sindoor.
Nationwide Agenda: Roadmap to Developed India by 2047
The central theme of this year’s Governing Council meet is the comprehensive roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047, a strategic vision to uplift India to developed status within the next two decades. Discussions are expected to revolve around long-term policy planning, digital transformation, economic acceleration, and inclusive growth.
This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first major in-person engagement with the heads of all states and union territories since the execution of Operation Sindoor, showcasing renewed focus on cooperative federalism and collaborative governance.
Economic Strategies Amid Global Headwinds
The upcoming meeting is crucial in light of pressing economic challenges, particularly in the backdrop of global trade disruptions, slowing Chinese growth, and recessionary trends in the United States. Key issues on the table include the impact of retaliatory tariffs imposed by the Trump-led US administration and the state of the Indian economy post these geopolitical shocks.
As per official sources, the 2025-26 Union Budget initiatives will be reviewed, with focus on fiscal sustainability, domestic manufacturing, and job creation.
India’s Growth Outlook: Optimism Amid Global Uncertainty
Despite international turbulence, India’s economy is projected to maintain a resilient growth rate of 6.2% to 6.7% in the current financial year. While the IMF and World Bank have revised India’s growth estimates to 6.2% and 6.3%, respectively, they still acknowledge India’s strong domestic consumption base and reform-oriented government policies.
These projections are slightly down from their earlier forecasts in January, when growth estimates stood at 6.5% (IMF) and 6.7% (World Bank). The current revision highlights the need for structural reforms and policy recalibration, which are expected to be central to Saturday’s deliberations.
Spotlight on Budget 2025-26 Reforms
The Governing Council will also assess the early implementation phases of schemes and initiatives introduced in Budget 2025-26, especially in agriculture modernization, infrastructure funding, climate resilience, and technological innovation.
With India navigating a challenging yet opportunity-filled global environment, the emphasis is expected to be on enhancing export competitiveness, supply chain diversification, and green energy transitions.
State Participation: All Eyes on Cooperation
The presence and participation of state leadership is pivotal. Last year, 10 states and union territories opted out of the meeting, raising concerns about political differences interfering with national planning. This year, renewed efforts have been made to ensure full participation, signaling the importance of national consensus on development goals.
The Governing Council includes the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers of all states, Lt. Governors of Union Territories, and multiple Union Ministers, making it the apex body of NITI Aayog.
Stalin Meets Gandhi Family Ahead of Meeting
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already reached New Delhi to participate in the meeting. His arrival was marked by a warm welcome by DMK leaders, led by TR Baalu. Notably, Stalin also met Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, sharing a personal sentiment on social media stating that meeting them feels like “being with family,” underscoring the growing opposition unity ahead of key national dialogues.
Unity, Economy, and Vision 2047 Under One Roof
This NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting comes at a defining moment for India’s economic and political future. It serves not only as a planning session but also as a symbolic gathering where India’s federal structure is realigned to collectively pursue the dream of Viksit Bharat.
As global economies grapple with uncertainty, India stands poised to define its own path, driven by leadership, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to growth. The decisions taken in this meeting could become foundational for the policies that will shape India’s trajectory through the mid-21st century
