Chandigarh : Turning a new leaf in the cultural scenario in the city, S-4 Trust in association with the Department of Social Welfare, UT Administration, and Gurukul Vidyapeeth organized a “Cultural Olympiad for Special Children” at Bal Bhavan in Sector 23 here today.
The mega Olympiad was inaugurated by Sh.Ram Niwas, Home-cum- Social Welfare secretary, UT Administration, as chief guest while Samwarthak Singh, Director Social Welfare and Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, Punjab Arts Council, were guests of honor for the occasion.
Reiterating the commitment of the UT administration to the welfare of the differently-abled children, Ram Niwas complimented S-4 Trust and Gurukul Vidyapeeth for the noble endeavour which he hoped would go a long way in their empowerment. Secretary, offered all kind of support to the organizers in holding this event henceforth and asserted “These kinds of programme provide right platform, we want the organizers to find out the talent among these special children so that Social welfare Department UT can hold special camps to bring out the latent talent in them so that their energy can be properly channelised.
More than 100 special children of Bhawan Vidyalaya Sec. 27, SOREM School Sec.36, Prayas School Sec. 38, Regional Institute of Mentally Challenged Sec. 31-C, Institute for the Blind Sec. 26 (Society for the care of Blind) enthusiastically participated in the event and showcased their talent in the form of solo, group dance and singing competition Among the audience present were parents, friend and teachers who appreciated their talent and enjoyed the performances
Detailing the purpose behind the noble initiative, Rinku Kalia, winner of Zee TV’s “Sa Re Ga Ma” and CEO, Sur wid Taal-Talent Hunt-2010 informed that these children had immense hidden potential and this was an effort to explore their talent and aimed at bringing them into the mainstream of society. The short listed special children will perform with the winners of the “Voice of Chandigarh-2010”, “Dancer of Chandigarh-2010” and “Great Chandigarh Laughter Challenge-2010”, at the grand finale to be held around 28 September as part of the birthday celebrations of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar ji, she added.
