In a major operation based on intelligence inputs, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has recovered heroin worth Rs 80 crore from a truck on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Udhampur district.
“Police yesterday (Sunday) recovered heroin worth Rs 80 crore from a truck bearing Afghan symbols,” the police officer said. The truck was stopped at zero point at Chenani in Udhampur district.
The official further said, the truck was coming from Uri town in the Valley, where the consignment was loaded into the truck.
The police came to know that the driver in Pakistan was in constant touch with the handler through social media platform messages.
Police said, the driver has disclosed that he was headed for Punjab and after reaching Punjab, he will be given a final instruction regarding the disposal of the consignment of drugs.
The recovered consignment weighed 21.5 kg and was kept in 18 packets. Police said that the arrested driver has been a part of the inter-border drug racket for a long time and further investigation is on in the matter. PLC/GT
