Indian passengers to enjoy in-flight Wi-Fi with new government approval

Mumbai – The government said that passengers in the flight will be able to use internet service through Wi-Fi only when the aircraft reaches a height of 3,000 meters in Indian airspace and electronic devices will be allowed to be used in it.

This facility will be available after reaching a height of 3,000 meters in Indian airspace
This clarification from the government has come under the new Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024. Earlier in 2018, it was made mandatory that mobile communication service can be started in the aircraft only when the aircraft reaches a minimum height of 3,000 meters to avoid interference with terrestrial mobile networks. Now according to the new rule, even after reaching this height, internet service through Wi-Fi will be provided only when the use of electronic devices is allowed.

The captain of the flight will have the authority to turn Wi-Fi on or off. Also, Wi-Fi will be turned on when the plane is at a stable take-off speed. However, it will have to be turned off during take-off or landing.
