Tamil film star Dhanush has been served a legal notice demanding ₹20 crore ($2.4 million approx.) in connection with his unfinished film project Naan Rudran, according to legal documents issued this week.
The notice, sent by A. Chidambaram on behalf of the production company, gives the actor until the end of 2026 to complete the film. If he fails to do so, he could be required to pay ₹20 crore in damages plus an additional ₹1 crore as compensation.
Dispute Dates Back to 2016 Contract
According to the notice, Dhanush signed the project in 2016 but later left it incomplete. When the production house objected, the actor allegedly promised to compensate by directing and acting in another film for the company. The producers claim that commitment was never fulfilled.
Producers Cite Financial Losses
The production firm stated it invested nearly ₹20 crore relying on Dhanush’s participation. They also reportedly cast actors Nagarjuna and S. J. Suryah, paying them for their involvement before the project stalled.
Producers allege the film halted because the actor did not submit a complete script and reassigned his shooting dates to other projects, leading to escalating contractual tensions.
One-Week Deadline to Respond
The notice gives Dhanush seven days to respond and confirm whether he intends to complete the film by the stipulated 2026 deadline. Legal action and financial claims will be waived if the film is completed. Otherwise, the production house says it will pursue compensation and further legal remedies.
