Delhi’s air pollution has reached hazardous levels – National Capital Region, ‘Delhi’, is facing severe air pollution. Air Quality Index ‘AQI’ has crossed 500+. The atmosphere is covered in a white sheet of air pollution. Amidst the poisonous air of Delhi, the smog tower installed at a cost of Rs 23 crores is gathering dust. On Monday, the smog tower installed in the heart of Delhi i.e. ‘Connaught Place’ was inspected. After reaching the spot, it was found that the smog tower has been closed since January. The 40 giant fans of this tower, which purify the air, are lying closed. Dust has accumulated on them. The workers present there, on the condition of anonymity, only said that it is expected to start in a week or two. Another person present there said, right now there is a problem of electricity connection here. The workers working here never get their salary. Experts say that there are currently two smog towers in Delhi, one in New Delhi and the other in Anand Vihar. If you look at the AQI level of both the places, then the working condition of these towers will be known automatically.
The air quality in the capital Delhi has reached a very bad condition on Monday. AQI has crossed 500 in some areas of Delhi. The air is getting poisonous. Amidst the threat to the lives of people, the matter of air pollution has also reached the Supreme Court. In the year 2021, 2 smog towers were installed in Delhi. One of these towers was installed in Connaught Place. The second smog tower was installed in Anand Vihar. The matter of installing smog towers also reached the Supreme Court. These towers were installed after the intervention of the court. Both these smog towers are similar in design and size. Each tower is 24 meters high. There are 40 giant fans installed around one tower. These have 5,000 high-efficiency particulate air filters. The air is filtered by these. The filter is designed in such a way that it can purify 1,000 cubic meters of air per second.
According to experts, if a one km wide forest and 53 smog towers are built around the national capital, then Delhi can be made pollution free. This forest is also called ring forest. The Aravalli region around Delhi is now slowly becoming barren. Mining is being done here on such a large scale that this green area will soon become like the desert of Rajasthan. The governments are not paying any attention to this. Mining licenses and permission to build farm houses are being given arbitrarily. Commercial Land Use (CLU) certificates are being distributed, going beyond the rules. Due to this, the forests here have been destroyed and due to which Delhi is in this condition today.
