Deadly Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort Kills 9, Injures Over 20; Jaish-e-Mohammed Link Suspected, UAPA Case Filed

New Delhi | November 11, 2025 — A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening sent shockwaves across the capital, leaving at least nine people dead and more than 20 injured, in what authorities suspect could be a terror-related attack.

The blast occurred inside a Hyundai i20 car parked near Subhash Marg around 7:15 PM, creating panic in the densely populated Old Delhi area. Eyewitnesses reported a deafening sound followed by flames and shattered glass spreading across several lanes.

“The explosion was so intense that windows of nearby shops shattered. We saw injured people lying on the road before emergency teams arrived,” said a local shopkeeper near the blast site.

Terror Angle Under Investigation

Preliminary reports suggest that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated remotely. Investigators are probing possible links to Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and a joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell is conducting the probe.

“We are treating this as a suspected terror act until proven otherwise. Forensic teams are examining chemical residues and CCTV footage,” an NIA official said.

High Alert in the Capital

Following the explosion, the entire central zone of Delhi was placed on high alert, with intensified checks at metro stations, airports, and sensitive installations. Traffic diversions were implemented near the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and Daryaganj areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were briefed late in the night, with directives issued to ensure no lapses in security.

Global Condemnation and Support

Leaders from the UK and US expressed condolences, condemning the attack and offering assistance in the investigation. “We stand with India in the fight against terror,” a US State Department spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, hospitals across Delhi, including LNJP and RML, have been put on emergency standby as the injured continue to receive treatment.

The Red Fort area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and key national monument, has witnessed heightened security in recent years due to its historical and political significance. Monday’s explosion marks one of the most serious security breaches in the capital in recent times.
