Delhi NCR Braces for Sharper Cold on January 10 as Rain and Fog Push Temperatures Lower: IMD

Cold and foggy morning in Delhi NCR as temperatures drop on January 10
Delhi NCR Cold Wave Intensifies After Rain, IMD Issues Fog Alert

New Delhi | January 9, 2026

Severe winter conditions continue to grip Delhi NCR, with temperatures expected to drop further on Saturday, January 10, following light rainfall and persistent cold wave conditions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

After experiencing cold wave conditions for two consecutive days, the weather across the national capital region changed abruptly on Friday morning. Light rain was recorded in several parts of Delhi NCR, leading to a sharp fall in temperatures and intensifying the winter chill.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for fog, warning residents of reduced visibility during early morning and late-night hours. For Saturday, the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 17°C, while the minimum may fall to nearly 5°C. Light haze or mist is also expected during the evening and nighttime.

IMD Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the weather department, skies will remain largely clear from January 10 to 12, but light to moderate fog is likely during morning hours. During this period, day temperatures may range between 15°C and 18°C, while night temperatures are expected to stay between 5°C and 8°C.

On January 13 and 14, Delhi NCR may see partly cloudy skies, with continued chances of morning fog. Meteorologists expect only minor fluctuations in temperature during these days.

Advisory Issued for Residents

The IMD has advised people to exercise caution during early morning hours, particularly motorists, as dense fog could reduce visibility on roads, increasing the risk of accidents.

Air Quality Outlook

The recent rainfall is expected to bring some relief from air pollution levels. However, air quality remains a concern. As per the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 318 on Friday morning, placing it in the “very poor” category.

Meteorological conditions following the rain are expected to help improve dispersion, potentially leading to better air quality over the next few days.

While the changing weather has deepened the winter chill across Delhi NCR, it has also raised hopes of temporary relief from severe air pollution, offering a mixed outlook for residents.
