New Delhi, November 12: Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) has soared to 413, classified as ‘Severe’, prompting authorities to implement GRAP Stage 3 measures across the capital. According to official reports, 33 out of 39 monitoring stations recorded hazardous levels of air pollution, as thick smog blankets the city.
In response, the government has shifted classes up to 5th grade to hybrid learning, halted construction activities, and deployed anti-smog guns in critical areas. Citizens have been urged to limit outdoor activities and use masks when venturing outside.
Meteorologists predict slight relief with moderate winds today, but experts caution that Delhi’s pollution crisis remains severe, noting that India saw over 2 million pollution-linked deaths in 2023 alone. Residents have been warned to stay vigilant, particularly children, elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
The GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) Stage 3 also restricts diesel generator use, increases public transport options, and steps up enforcement of dust control measures across construction sites. Health officials recommend high-efficiency masks and the use of air purifiers at home to reduce exposure.
Authorities continue to monitor AQI trends closely, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital to mitigate the health risks posed by Delhi’s persistent winter smog.
