Mumbai , December 15, 2025 : As 2025 heads toward its close, Vicky Kaushal’s historical action epic Chhaava continues to reign supreme as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, according to consolidated trade estimates. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film has amassed an impressive ₹797–809 crore worldwide, with some industry trackers placing its lifetime haul even higher, in the ₹850–900 crore range, depending on late overseas tallies and dubbed-version revenues.
Released earlier in the year, Chhaava emerged as a clear blockbuster, driven by exceptional domestic performance. The film recorded over ₹600 crore net collections in India, while its overseas earnings are estimated between ₹93–110 crore, making it one of the strongest global performers from Indian cinema in 2025. The film also benefited from sustained theatrical runs in Maharashtra, North India, and key international markets with large Indian diaspora populations.
The film stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, depicting the Maratha warrior-king’s fierce resistance against Mughal forces. Akshaye Khanna and Rashmika Mandanna play pivotal roles, with the film earning praise for its scale, emotional depth, and Kaushal’s commanding central performance. Trade analysts credit Chhaava’s success to its powerful historical narrative, strong word of mouth, and appeal across language barriers.
As year-end box office reports emerge, industry data highlights 2025 as a recovery year for Bollywood and Indian cinema overall. Alongside Chhaava, other major contributors include Saiyaara (₹570 crore+ worldwide) and ongoing performers such as Dhurandhar. Pan-India releases, dubbed South Indian films, and star-driven Bollywood spectacles have collectively fueled growth, reflecting renewed audience confidence.
Globally, while Hollywood trends in 2025 have leaned toward animation and established franchises, Indian cinema has found success in historical dramas, action spectacles, and culturally rooted stories. The sustained worldwide interest in Chhaava underscores the growing global footprint of Indian content and positions 2025 as one of the industry’s strongest post-pandemic years.
