Carmel school girls starts the cleaning work at the Rock Garden

The students of Carmel Convent School today formally adopted the Rock Garden in presence of the Home Secretary Ram Niwas , Nek Chand, the Creator Director, Rock Garden and faculty members of Carmel Convent by cleaning the walls polluted with obscene graphics and messages in the third phase of the Rock Garden. Around 200 Carmelites holding placard in their hands with slogans on “Cleaning Rock Garden” interacted with the Home Secretary and put forth their suggestions to preserve and protect the invaluable heritage of Chandigarh.
Talking to the students at the Rock Garden, Home Secretary explained to be fortunate being associated with a living legend like Nek Chand. A little contribution to make Rock Garden more beautiful neat and tidy will give us immense satisfaction to all visits Rock Garden. While narrating example about foreigners coming from overseas for research work on Rock Garden he emphasized to preserve the heritage of such tourist place by the people of Chandigarh too .
The two hundred students of Camel Convent have been divided into two groups consisting of 100 students in each who will visit the Rock Garden once or twice in a month and spend two to three hours by doing different activities to enhance its beauty. The entry of all such students will be free of cost. During the interaction the girls put forth that they will volunteer their services like garbage cleaning, collecting litter, cleaning graphics on whole, do painting, clicking pictures and face painting. The girls volunteered to guide the visitors also.
It has been decided that, after three months a photographic competition will be held amongst all these volunteer students and the winner will be felicitated with the award sponsored by Chandigarh Tourism, UT. It was decided to hold curriculum activities to promote Rock Garden like slogan writing, poster making, and quiz contest on the theme Rock Garden on heritage of Chandigarh. In addition to this, best dedicated student will be awarded the title Rashtriya Dharohar Ke Rakhwale(Protector of National Heritage) and rest of the student will get participation certificate.

The Home Secretary further informed that all participants will be issued a special card by Chandigarh Administration for their volunteer services rendering to preserving the Rock Garden. Whereas as the winner of Rashtriya Dharohar Ke Rakhwale and their families will be entitled to visit the tourists spots in Chandigarh free of cost plus 15% discount will be provided to them on visiting hotels and restaurant run by CITCO.

Besides, cleaning campaign ,these students put forth that they would like to hold treasure hunt, photographic competition, dance competition, Rock Garden Day, competition on wealth out of waste, we-designing competition, installing dustbin with placards on it, decorating structures, putting sign boards, holding competition on sculptures, with waste material, writing columns in newspapers, organizing on the spot competition of visitors preparing tourism calendar with twelve best photographs in Rock Garden in all seasons with slogans, organizing Rock Garden fate.
All the students along with the Home Secretary and Nek Chand, faculty members of Carmel convent visited the aquarium section of third phase recently inaugurated. The girls spent around two hours in this initiative of cleaning campaign.
The Home Secretary has asked various Government and private schools to come forward to adopt Heritage monuments and tourist spots in the city such as Government Museum and Art Gallery Sector 10, Portrait Gallery Sector 17, Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Leisure Valley, Terrace Garden, Botanical Garden Sector 42 Lake, Beant Singh memori
