This month we’ve seen Cape Town win three separate awards, and what a coup they are. From top city in Africa to third top city in the world, Cape Town has plenty to celebrate in 2014. – Enver Duminy, CEO Cape Town Tourism.  Cape Town, it seems, is the darling of the international travel world. Accolades for the beautiful Mother City continue to roll in, with the most recent being Cape Town’s mention in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014 – Top 10 Cities. Cape Town took third spot behind Paris and Trinidad, and was followed by Riga, Zurich, Shanghai, Vancouver, Chicago, Adelaide and Auckland. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel series is produced annually as the ultimate guide to the top places to visit, and trends and experiences around the world. In a round-up of the top cities, Lonely Planet says of the Mother City: ‘There’s never a bad time to visit Cape Town. In recent years the city has received a deluge of accolades paying homage to its undeniable natural beauty. This year the city is destined to get even prettier as it takes on the title of World Design Capital for 12 inspirational months.’ The guide goes on to praise Cape Town for the work done in uplifting communities and environments in and around the city. This accolade comes hot on the heels of Cape Town being named as Africa’s Leading Destination and Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination in the World Travel Awards. It was also ranked 11th in the Top 25 Cities in the World in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, and took first place in the Top 10 Cities in Africa & the Middle East category in the same awards. Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, is thrilled with the recognition and says, ‘This month we’ve seen Cape Town win three separate awards, and what a coup they are. From top city in Africa to third top city in the World, Cape Town has plenty to celebrate in 2014.’
