Some premiers have also advised to stop the supply of energy from Canada to America.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a meeting with the premiers of various states of the country on Wednesday. In this meeting, the response to Donald Trump’s move to impose tariffs was discussed. This was the second such meeting after Trump’s statement of imposing tariffs on Canada, in which the steps to be taken by Canada against America were discussed. Canada’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was also present in this meeting. During the meeting, many premiers advised the Trudeau government to take strict action against America.
After the meeting, the Canadian Finance Minister said that the premiers of some states have advised to identify and stop the export of those products which are exported from Canada to the US and which are important for America. Canada supplies oil, natural gas and electricity to the US in large quantities. Some premiers advised to stop this energy supply of America.
It is noteworthy that Donald Trump, in a statement last month, talked about imposing tariffs up to 25 percent on goods coming from Canada and Mexico. The annual trade between the US and Canada is worth billions of dollars.
According to the data of the US Trade Representatives, there was a trade of $ 614 billion between the US and Canada in the year 2022. In such a situation, if Trump decides to impose tariffs on goods coming from Canada and in response to that Canada also takes strict steps, then this can create tension in the relations between the two countries.
