BSF rescues army troops and maroon civilians in rampur area of uri, baramulla in recent floods

Recent floods caused havoc in various parts of Kashmir valley due to incessant rains. Many houses and roads in the catchment area along river Jhelum were extensively damaged. This includes Boniyar area on road Baramulla- Uri.

BSF troops deployed at Boniyar on Anti Infiltration duties came in rescue of the Army troops in Rashtriya Rifle’s camp at Bela on 5th Sept 2014. BSF Post Bela and Rashtriya Rifle camp situated downstream got cut off from the main land due to breach in the river embankment by flood waters. The BSF Post BELA 2Comdr of CI Post Bela assessing the situation, energized his troops and pooled available rescue gear.  Exhibiting exemplary camaraderie, not only rescued trapped 34 BSF and 47 Army troops of Rashtriya Rifles but also evacuated 10 civilians including a lady to safer places, thus saved precious lives. Civil administration, the Army and locals of the area have appreciated the relief work by BSF in this hour of need.
Alarming flood situation in Kashmir made Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh to visit Kashmir today. He took stock of flood situation in valley and assured all possible assistance of the Central Govt to J&K for flood relief work.
