The post-Holi box office slowdown is becoming increasingly visible in Indian cinemas, with several films witnessing a decline in ticket sales. While “The Kerala Story 2” continues to lead the box office among current releases, its daily collections have also started to taper. Meanwhile, “Assi” and “O Romeo” have recorded notable drops, signaling fading momentum at theaters.
Industry observers say the holiday effect around Holi temporarily boosted footfall, but weekday numbers now reflect a softer demand for theatrical releases.
‘The Kerala Story 2’ Begins to Slow After Opening Week
Seven days after its theatrical release, “The Kerala Story 2” remains the strongest performer among the films currently playing in cinemas. However, the film’s daily earnings show signs of slowing momentum.
According to box office estimates, the film collected ₹2.4 crore on Thursday, down from ₹3.50 crore on Wednesday. With this, the movie’s total collection in its first week has reached approximately ₹22.55 crore.
The film is reportedly produced on a budget of around ₹28 crore, and analysts expect it to recover its production cost soon if the steady pace of collections continues over the weekend.
‘Assi’ Nearly Out of the Box Office Race
The film “Assi,” starring Taapsee Pannu, has struggled to maintain audience interest in its second week.
On its 14th day in theaters, the film earned ₹16 lakh on Thursday, a noticeable drop from ₹30 lakh on Wednesday. The film’s total domestic box office collection now stands at approximately ₹9.54 crore.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film had modest expectations but has faced stiff competition and declining footfall during weekdays.
Audience Interest Declines for ‘O Romeo’
Meanwhile, “O Romeo,” starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, has also seen a gradual decline in earnings as its theatrical run enters the third week.
The film collected ₹56 lakh on Thursday, compared with ₹85 lakh on Wednesday. After 21 days in theaters, the movie’s total box office collection has reached around ₹68.11 crore.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the romantic drama opened strongly but has begun to lose momentum as newer releases compete for audience attention.
Box Office Trend: Quiet Weekdays After Festival Boost
The latest numbers highlight a broader post-festival box office slowdown across Indian cinemas. While weekend collections may still provide temporary boosts, weekday earnings indicate that audiences are currently selective about theatrical releases.
Trade analysts will now watch upcoming weekend numbers closely to determine whether any of the films can regain momentum.
