Mumbai, India — April 19, 2026
The Indian box office witnessed a notable shift this weekend as Bhoot Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar, recorded a strong surge in collections, slightly denting the long-standing dominance of Dhurandhar 2, which has led the charts for over a month.
Directed by Priyadarshan, the horror-comedy had a modest opening but showed impressive growth over the weekend, signaling positive audience traction.
Bhoot Bangla Gains Momentum
Bhoot Bangla opened with ₹12.25 crore on Friday, alongside ₹3.75 crore from paid previews. However, the film saw a significant jump on Saturday, collecting ₹19 crore.
This brings its total domestic box office earnings to approximately ₹35 crore within just two days of wide release, indicating strong word-of-mouth and weekend footfall. The upward trend has also slightly impacted the daily earnings pace of competing titles.
Dhurandhar 2 Still Leads, But Slows
Despite the weekend surge of new releases, Dhurandhar 2, featuring Ranveer Singh, continues to dominate the overall box office.
Released on March 19, the film collected ₹4.65 crore on Saturday. While daily earnings have slowed, the film has achieved a massive total of ₹1,110.47 crore, maintaining its position as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films.
Industry analysts note that sustaining such numbers weeks after release reflects strong audience retention and repeat viewership.
Dacoit Struggles to Gain Pace
The pan-India film Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, continues to underperform at the box office.
After releasing on April 10, the film has struggled to pick up momentum. It earned ₹1.15 crore on Saturday, following ₹90 lakh on Friday. Its total box office collection now stands at ₹30.50 crore.
The film’s slow growth suggests limited audience pull amid strong competition from both Bollywood and Hollywood releases.
Project Hail Mary Sees Weekend Boost
Meanwhile, Hollywood sci-fi film Project Hail Mary has once again benefited from weekend footfall in India.
The film earned ₹1.78 crore on Saturday, improving from ₹83 lakh on Friday. Its total India net collection has now reached ₹62.66 crore since its release on March 26.
The steady performance highlights continued interest in international content among Indian audiences.
