The DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on aviation company for violating flight related rules. The fine was imposed for flouting rules by not allowing crew rest before and after ultra-long haul flights.
In view of the high level of security, DGCA had conducted a spot audit of Air India in January for compliance with FDTL and FMS rules. Evidence was collected and reports analyzed during the audit. A senior DGCA official said investigation into the reports revealed that Air India in some cases operated flights with both flight crew above 60 years of age, which was in violation of the Aircraft Rules, 1937. There is a violation of sub-rule (2) of 28A.
They also said that the operator was found deficient in providing adequate weekly rest before and after ultra-long range flights and adequate rest on layovers to the flight crew, which is in violation of the existing provisions of civil aviation requirements on FDTL. Apart from this, deficiencies in exceeding duty period, wrongly marked training records, overlapping duties etc. were also found during the audit.
