Actor Aamir Khan has revealed that despite the enormous commercial success of the 2014 blockbuster PK, he and director Rajkumar Hirani were not completely satisfied with the film before its release.

Speaking in a recent interview cited by Hindustan Times, Khan said both he and Hirani felt certain elements of the movie could have been better, even though they considered it their best effort at the time.

Why They Had Doubts

According to Khan, the film’s original script was different, but changes were made during development after similarities were noticed with another film’s concept.

He explained that although PK featured a unique central character — an alien protagonist — some narrative aspects seemed similar to another project, which led the team to revise portions of the storyline before release.

PK was very successful, but Raju and I were not completely happy with it. We made changes because there were some similarities. Still, it was our best effort,” Khan said.

About the Film

Directed by Hirani, PK starred:

  • Anushka Sharma

  • Sushant Singh Rajput

  • Boman Irani

  • Saurabh Shukla

  • Sanjay Dutt

Upon release, PK became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, a record later surpassed by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Dangal.

Current Projects

Khan also shared updates about his ongoing work. He and Hirani had planned a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, but the project is currently on hold due to creative differences.

The actor was last seen in Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, alongside Imran Khan and Vir Das. He is now focused on producing Ek Din, starring his son Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.

Industry Insight

Filmmakers often revisit scripts during production to avoid thematic overlap with other projects. Industry experts note that such last-minute revisions are common in large productions and can influence final creative satisfaction, even when the film performs exceptionally well at the box office.
