Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged the people not to engage children as labourers and stressed that instead they should help in educating the children so as to ensure their bright future. In a message issued here on the eve of World Day Against Child Labour, the Chief Minister described the children as the future custodians of the nation. He said that engaging a child labour below 14 years of age is an offence and the offender could be fined upto Rs 20,000 or imprisoned upto one year or both. He said that the State Government has implemented a number of schemes for the welfare of children, especially for their education their education. The State Government also gives financial assistance and other incentives so as to check drop out rate and ensure that no child is deprived of education for want of funds. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act has also been implemented in the state.
