As many as, 54 persons today donated blood units in a blood donation camp organized here by Directorate Defence Services Welfare in association with Red Cross and General Hospital Sector 16. Inaugurating the camp, Mr. Viswajeet Khanna Principal Secretary defence services welfare, who himself donated blood, exhorted the people of the state to contribute in such social welfare initiatives for the formation of healthy society. Mr. Khanna said that by donating blood we can save thousands of precious lives as Blood Donation was the biggest donation in the world. He said that for the welfare and betterment of society, we should not hesitate to donate blood besides making aware our young generations for this noble cause by eliminating wrong perceptions and affects of blood donation from the minds of general masses. Emphasizing on the need of initiating massive blood donation drive through out the state, Mr. Khanna called upon the people of the state to play a significant role to make this campaign a big success. Brigadier Manjit Singh, who was also one of the donor, informed the gathering that not only from Directorate but the employees from the districts were also especially come to Chandigarh to donate blood. He said that all the units donated by officers and employees have been deposited in the blood bank of General Hospital of Sector-16. Extending thanks to all the donors, Brig Singh said that these blood units would be helpful to save the scores of lives facing critical medical stages. Blood Donation Certificates and Souvenirs were also handed over to the donors on the spot. A chabbel (sweet water) was also served to the donors and others, who were present on the occasion, outside the camp site.
