Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India — April 2, 2026
South Indian superstar-turned-politician Vijay Thalapathy has formally stepped into electoral politics, filing his nomination for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Tiruchirappalli on Thursday.
Addressing supporters after submitting his papers, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) alleged that multiple forces were working against him, claiming a broader “conspiracy” targeting both his political entry and professional career.
Vijay Claims Political Opposition Is United Against Him
Speaking to a large gathering, Vijay suggested that rival political parties were collectively opposing his rise.
“You don’t need me to explain how all parties have come together against your Vijay,” he said, signaling what he described as coordinated resistance to his political ambitions.
He also referenced past incidents, including the Karur tragedy, suggesting they were not isolated events but part of a larger pattern.
Karur Tragedy and Film Delay Raised as Key Concerns
Vijay pointed to the Karur stampede incident, where dozens of people reportedly lost their lives during a public gathering linked to his party, claiming it was part of a conspiracy narrative being built against him.
Additionally, he raised concerns over delays surrounding his final film, Jana Nayagan, which has yet to receive clearance for release despite prolonged legal and certification processes.
According to Vijay, the film’s delay—currently under review by certification authorities—could also be politically motivated.
“I Fight for Justice, But I Need Justice Too”: Vijay
In an emotional appeal, Vijay positioned himself as both a leader and a member of the public, emphasizing his connection with supporters.
“As a brother, a son, and your Vijay, I am fighting for your justice. But I also need justice,” he stated.
He further questioned whether the delayed release of Jana Nayagan could have influenced the political landscape if it had reached audiences before the elections.
From Cinema to Politics: A High-Stakes Transition
Vijay’s entry into politics marks one of the most closely watched transitions in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, where film stars have historically wielded significant influence. His campaign under the TVK banner is expected to reshape electoral dynamics in the state.
While his allegations of conspiracy have drawn attention, there has been no official response yet from rival parties or authorities regarding the claims.
