BPCL new LPG booking rules require details for extra gas cylinders
Consumers must provide family and event details to book LPG cylinders beyond quota

New Delhi, India — March 23, 2026

In a major update for domestic gas users, BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) has introduced a new LPG booking rule requiring consumers to provide detailed information to avail cylinders beyond their annual quota.

The move comes amid reports of LPG supply constraints, prompting the company to tighten the booking process for additional cylinders.

Under the revised system, consumers who have already availed their annual quota of 12 LPG cylinder refills will now need to answer specific questions before placing a new booking.

The process has been integrated into the “Hello BPCL” mobile app. Users must download the app and provide details such as the number of family members, expected guests, and the purpose of the additional cylinder request.

Consumers may also be required to disclose whether the extra cylinder is needed for events such as weddings, community feasts, or other domestic functions. Bookings will only be confirmed after submitting these details.

The new rule came into effect on Sunday, catching both consumers and gas agency operators off guard. Many users reported failed booking attempts via mobile phones and had to visit gas agencies for clarification. Agency staff were initially unaware of the change until company officials confirmed the updated procedure.

Key Questions Asked During Booking

  • Is your household size six or more members?
  • Are there additional guests at home?
  • Is there a wedding, feast, or special event?
  • Is the requirement for other domestic use?

Impact on Consumers

The new system may create challenges for a section of users, particularly those without smartphones. Despite increasing digital adoption, many urban and rural consumers still rely on basic keypad phones.

Such users may face difficulties in downloading apps and completing the booking process, potentially forcing them to visit gas agencies in person. This could reduce the convenience of home-based LPG booking services for many households.
