BJP Receives Majority Electoral Trust Funding FY25

New Delhi — February 14, 2026

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received ₹3,157.65 crore from electoral trusts in the 2024–25 financial year, accounting for 82.52% of total funds distributed to political parties, according to a new report released Friday by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The findings are based on contribution documents submitted to the Election Commission of India, providing one of the most detailed snapshots of political funding patterns in the country.

Congress, Trinamool Among Other Major Recipients

The report states that the Indian National Congress received ₹398.77 crore, representing 7.81% of total electoral trust disbursements. The All India Trinamool Congress obtained ₹102 crore, or 2.67%.

In addition to the three major parties, 19 other political parties collectively received ₹267.91 crore during the same period.

Total Contributions and Distribution

According to ADR, electoral trusts received ₹3,826.34 crore in donations during FY25 and distributed ₹3,826.35 crore to political parties. Of the 20 registered electoral trusts, only 10 reported receiving contributions during the year.

The report also noted compliance gaps: five trusts had not uploaded their contribution reports on the Election Commission website even three months after the deadline.

Corporate Donors Dominated Funding

Corporate and business entities were the primary contributors, with 228 companies donating ₹3,636.81 crore. By comparison, 99 individual donors contributed ₹187.62 crore.

The largest donor was Elevated Avenue Realty LLP, which contributed ₹500 crore. It was followed by Tata Sons Pvt Ltd (₹308.13 crore), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (₹217.62 crore), and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (₹175 crore).

Which Trusts Distributed the Most Funds

Among electoral trusts, Prudent Electoral Trust distributed the highest amount, allocating ₹2,668.46 crore to 15 political parties.

Meanwhile, Progressive Electoral Trust distributed ₹914.97 crore among 10 parties.

Electoral trust regulations require these entities to distribute at least 95% of the funds they receive in a given year to political parties.

Why This Report Matters

Political finance transparency remains a major issue in India’s electoral system. Analysts say such disclosures help voters and policymakers understand funding patterns, donor influence, and the financial strength of parties ahead of future elections.

The concentration of donations among a small number of parties and corporate contributors may also fuel debate about campaign finance reform and transparency norms.
