The Bollywood box office witnessed a tough Friday for new releases as Vadh 2 and Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain failed to make a strong impact on their opening day. Both films faced stiff competition from already running big titles like Mardaani 3 and Border 2, which continued to pull audiences into theaters.
Despite belonging to different genres, the new releases struggled to draw footfalls on Day 1.
‘Vadh 2’ Records a Slow Opening
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, ‘Vadh 2’ collected just ₹50 lakh on its opening day. While critics appreciated the film’s gripping murder-thriller narrative, the audience response at the box office remained muted.
The film stars Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta in lead roles, alongside Kumud Mishra, Yogita Bihani, and Akshay Dogra. The total collection of the film currently stands at ₹50 lakh, reflecting a cautious start despite positive reviews.
‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’ Struggles at the Box Office
The comedy film ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’, based on the popular television sitcom of the same name, also had a disappointing opening. The movie earned ₹25 lakh on Day 1, matching the underwhelming performance of ‘Vadh 2’.
Although the TV show enjoys a strong fan base, the film adaptation failed to replicate the same magic on the big screen. The cast largely features actors from the television series, but that familiarity did not translate into ticket sales.
‘Mardaani 3’ Sees Drop but Holds Ground
Meanwhile, ‘Mardaani 3’, starring Rani Mukerji, continued its run in theaters. As per Sacnilk data, the film earned ₹1.75 crore on its eighth day, slightly down from ₹1.85 crore on Day 7.
The film’s total box office collection has now reached ₹28.05 crore. While weekday numbers have slowed, the makers are hopeful that the upcoming weekend could give the film a fresh boost.
‘Border 2’ Maintains Strong Momentum
The biggest performer remains ‘Border 2’, which continues to dominate the box office even in its third week. On its 15th day (Friday), the film collected ₹2.85 crore, compared to ₹3.35 crore on Thursday.
With a total collection of ₹297.25 crore, the film is inching closer to the coveted ₹300 crore club. While official trade figures suggest it has not yet crossed the milestone, the makers recently claimed that the film has already surpassed ₹300 crore at the Indian box office.
Box Office Verdict
While established films like ‘Border 2’ and ‘Mardaani 3’ continue to command audience attention, new releases are finding it difficult to survive amid strong competition. The weekend will be crucial for ‘Vadh 2’ and ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’ to show any meaningful growth.
