Delhi-NCR Sees Rainfall Amid Active Western Disturbance

New Delhi, India | February 1, 2026

Rainfall has returned to Delhi NCR as an active western disturbance continues to influence weather conditions across North India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain accompanied by gentle winds has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures, increasing the winter chill across the region.

The IMD had already issued a yellow alert for rainfall today, warning residents of changing weather conditions and colder mornings and evenings.

🌧️ Multiple Western Disturbances to Impact Region

Earlier, the weather department had forecast that three western disturbances would remain active between February 1 and February 7, impacting the Himalayan states with snowfall and bringing rain to northwestern plains, including Delhi-NCR.

  • The first two disturbances are expected to affect the region between January 31 and February 3

  • The third system is likely to become active around February 5

Due to updated weather models, the IMD has now revised its forecast, indicating that rainfall in Delhi-NCR is likely only until Sunday, instead of the earlier three-day projection.

🥶 Cold Conditions Deepen After Rainfall

With light winds blowing across the region, the post-rain environment has turned colder, intensifying shivering conditions, especially during early mornings and late evenings. Dense moisture in the air has also contributed to discomfort and reduced visibility in some pockets.

Notably, January 2026 turned out colder than January 2025, based on IMD data:

  • January 2026:

    • Average maximum temperature: 20.1°C

    • Average minimum temperature: 6.8°C

  • January 2025:

    • Average maximum temperature: 21.1°C

    • Average minimum temperature: 8.5°C

🌫️ Foggy Mornings, Brief Daytime Relief

Saturday began with fog and haze, leading to reduced visibility across several parts of the city. Cold winds further aggravated the chill during the morning hours. As the sun appeared briefly during the day, residents experienced temporary relief.

However, by evening, cold winds picked up again, increasing the biting cold. Many residents were seen gathering around bonfires to stay warm.

🌡️ Temperature and Humidity Update

According to IMD observations:

  • Maximum temperature: 21.5°C

  • Minimum temperature: 6.7°C

  • Maximum humidity: 100%

  • Minimum humidity: 68%

Minimum temperatures recorded across key locations:

  • Ridge: 7.7°C

  • Aya Nagar: 6.6°C

  • Lodhi Road: 7.1°C

  • Palam: 8.1°C

📊 Outlook for the Coming Days

The IMD forecast suggests fluctuating minimum temperatures in the coming week:

  • February 1: 10–12°C

  • February 2: 11–13°C

  • February 3: 10–12°C

  • February 4: 8–10°C

  • February 5–6: 7–9°C

Cold winds with speeds of 5–10 km/h are expected between February 4 and February 6, which may further intensify the chill.
