Washington, D.C., January 17, 2026
The U.S. President Donald Trump has expanded his Gaza peace initiative by appointing former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and his son-in-law Jared Kushner as founding members of a newly created “Board of Peace.” The board has been formed to implement Trump’s 20-point ceasefire proposal, aimed at stabilizing the Gaza Strip after months of conflict.
According to the White House, Tony Blair—who served as British Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007 and later worked as a special envoy to the Middle East—will be among the board’s founding members, along with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s special envoy to West Asia Steve Witkoff.
Who Is on Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’?
The board brings together political leaders, diplomats and global financial experts. Its newly confirmed members include:
Tony Blair, Former UK Prime Minister
Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor and Trump’s son-in-law
Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State
Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy for West Asia
Marc Rowan, CEO of Apollo Global Management
Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank
Robert Gabriel, U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor
Trump will serve as the Chairman of the Board.
What Will the Board Do?
According to the administration, the Board of Peace will focus on:
Stabilizing Gaza after the ceasefire
Long-term development planning
Governance capacity building
Strengthening regional diplomatic ties
Reconstruction projects
Investment, financing and capital mobilization
The board aims to lay the groundwork for a sustainable political and economic environment in Gaza following last year’s ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Separate Palestinian Technocratic Committee Formed
In addition to the board, a 15-member Palestinian technocratic body has been established, named the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
Leadership includes:
Ali Satah, Former Deputy Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority — Chairman
Nickolay Mladenov, former Bulgarian PM and former UN Special Envoy to the Middle East
The NCAG will handle local governance, administrative operations and civilian management in Gaza.
International Stability Force Planned
Trump’s broader peace plan also includes deploying an international stability force to train Palestinian police and help maintain security in the region.
U.S. Major General Jasper Jeffer is expected to lead this multinational force.
Background: Israel–Hamas Ceasefire and Next Steps
Trump’s peace initiative was first implemented in October last year, leading to a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. However, uncertainty continues over Gaza’s long-term political status, reconstruction timeline and demilitarization.
The second phase of the peace plan involves:
Full reconstruction of Gaza
Demilitarization of Hamas
Establishing secure governance with international oversight
As regional tensions remain high, the Board of Peace is expected to play a central role in shaping Gaza’s future.
