A thick layer of dense to very dense fog engulfed Delhi and surrounding NCR cities on Wednesday morning, drastically reducing visibility and disrupting air, road, and rail movement. Several parts of the capital, including Akshardham Temple, appeared wrapped in a white haze as temperatures dipped sharply.
Flights Hit as Visibility Drops at IGI Airport
Operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were affected as fog weakened runway visibility, causing delays across multiple domestic and international flights.
Airport authorities advised passengers to check real-time flight status before leaving for the terminal.
Although CAT-III low-visibility procedures remained active, reports indicate that dozens of flights experienced delays due to the severe fog spell.
How Cold Is Delhi-NCR Today?
Despite occasional sunshine, the cold wave in Delhi-NCR showed no signs of easing.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the following minimum temperatures at 8:30 am:
Delhi: 3.8°C
Noida: 2.0°C
Ghaziabad: 4.8°C
Gurgaon: 0.8°C
Faridabad: 4.3°C
Residents reported biting cold across several neighborhoods, with fog worsening conditions on major roads and railway routes.
Faridabad Blanketed by Fog After Clear Skies
After two to three days of clearer conditions, Faridabad woke up to a thick fog cover once again.
Commuters—particularly two-wheeler riders—struggled with the combination of low visibility and the sharp winter chill.
Gurgaon Sees Extreme Fog Density
Gurgaon faced one of the worst fog conditions in the region, with visibility in some rural pockets dropping below 50 meters.
Traffic slowed to a crawl as vehicles moved cautiously through the dense fog during peak morning hours. Several arterial roads reported congestion as fog-related disruptions led to slower transit.
