Large parts of Delhi and North India are expected to experience intense winter conditions on New Year’s Day, with forecasts indicating rain, dense fog, and biting cold temperatures, according to weather officials.

The national capital is likely to see maximum temperatures ranging between 14°C and 18°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to stay between 9°C and 11°C.
Weather agencies have predicted light to moderate rainfall across several areas of Delhi-NCR, with some localities already receiving rain overnight. The precipitation is likely to add to the chill factor throughout the day.
Morning hours may witness dense to very dense fog, potentially impacting visibility and disrupting road, rail, and air traffic in and around the capital.
Air Quality Remains a Concern
Delhi’s air quality continues to remain a major concern. As of 8:00 am, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 372, placing it firmly in the “very poor” category.
Weather Conditions Across Other Regions
North India: States including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh are also under alerts for dense fog and severe cold conditions.
Hilly Regions: Parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive heavy snowfall and rain, which could affect travel and daily activities.
Mumbai: The financial capital has also started the new year with unseasonal heavy rainfall, an unusual weather pattern for this time of year.
