NEW DELHI, India — December 26, 2025 —

The government of India has taken steps to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap Chinese imports by imposing anti-dumping duties on two key products, while simultaneously easing regulations for opening coal and lignite mines to boost the energy sector and ease of doing business.

The Finance Ministry has imposed five-year anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel and 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (R-134a) refrigerant gas originating from or exported from China. These measures follow investigations by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which found that below-normal priced imports were harming domestic industry.

Duties on the electrical steel range from $223.82 per tonne for certain producers to $415 per tonne for others. For R-134a refrigerant gas, the duty reaches up to $5,251 per tonne.
