Delhi Air Pollution Update: AQI Improves Slightly to 341 but Smog Still Severe in Many Areas

Delhi Sees Marginal Relief as Air Pollution Dips to AQI 341; Smog Still Chokes Several Areas

New Delhi, November 18:
Delhi’s air quality showed a slight improvement on Monday, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping from 360 to 341. Despite this marginal relief, the city continues to remain under a thick layer of smog, and pollution levels are still firmly in the “very poor” category.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), several pockets of the national capital—including Bawana, Anand Vihar, Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri, and Mundka—continued to report AQI levels above 400, placing them in the “severe” category.

Officials noted that calm wind conditions, low temperatures, and the continued presence of vehicular and industrial emissions are preventing rapid dispersion of pollutants.

GRAP Restrictions Continue

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III restrictions remain in effect across Delhi-NCR. These include:

  • Ban on non-essential construction and demolition

  • Restrictions on diesel vehicles

  • Intensified road vacuuming and anti-smog gun operations

  • Curbs on industrial activities that contribute to PM2.5 and PM10 levels

Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor activities, wear N95 masks when stepping out, and avoid morning walks until air quality improves.

With no major change in wind patterns or temperature expected over the next 48 hours, experts warn that pollution levels may fluctuate but are unlikely to see major improvement in the short term.
