Red Fort Car Blast: NIA Takes Over Probe After 9 Killed, PM Modi Says ‘Culprits Will Not Be Spared’

New Delhi, November 11: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday transferred the investigation into the Red Fort car blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), a day after a powerful explosion near the historic monument left eight to nine people dead and several others injured.

The move comes amid heightened security across the National Capital Region, with forensic teams and anti-terror units examining the scene for explosives residue and surveillance footage.

Officials confirmed that a suspect has been detained in Gurugram, linked to the vehicle registration used in the blast, and is currently being interrogated by central agencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation late Monday night, condemned the attack and assured swift justice.

“Those responsible for this cowardly act will not be spared. India stands united against terror,” the Prime Minister said.

The NIA is expected to invoke stringent anti-terror laws, including provisions under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), as initial reports suggest the use of high-grade explosives in the incident.

Sources said the blast occurred around 7:45 PM near the Red Fort’s eastern parking zone, damaging nearby vehicles and shops. Security around key landmarks, including Parliament, India Gate, and major metro stations, has been tightened.

Home Minister Amit Shah held an emergency meeting with senior intelligence officials, NIA representatives, and Delhi Police to assess the situation.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information online as the probe continues.

The incident has sparked renewed discussions over urban terror preparedness and surveillance gaps around high-security zones in Delhi.
