Midnight LPG Cylinder Shock! LPG Cylinder Price Hiked by ₹50 — Ujjwala & General Customers Hit Alike

New Delhi, April 7, 2025:
Inflation just hit your kitchen—LPG prices have shot up by ₹50 per cylinder, dealing a blow to crores of Indian households. The new prices will come into effect from midnight tonight, impacting both general consumers and PM Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries.

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the hike on Monday, citing the need to recover ₹43,000 crore in gas losses incurred by oil marketing companies.

📊 New LPG Cylinder Prices from Tonight:

  • 🔴 Domestic (General Public): ₹853 (up from ₹803)

  • 🔵 PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY): ₹553 (up from ₹503)

Puri justified the hike, saying,

“We review prices every 2–3 weeks. This ₹50 increase is necessary, but the recent excise hike on petrol and diesel will not be passed to consumers.”

Despite falling global crude prices, he pointed out that Indian oil companies still hold high-cost inventory purchased at $75–83 per barrel, which is impacting current pricing.

🧨 LPG Price Hike Triggers Public Outcry

The ₹50 jump comes at a time when millions are already reeling from inflation in food and essential items. Social media is flooded with angry reactions, with critics calling it a burden on the poor and middle class.

Meanwhile, the government maintains that oil marketing companies need compensation, and petrol-diesel relief may follow once international oil prices stabilize.
