Abdullah Azam Khan Released After 17 Months of Incarceration

Today in a significant development, Abdullah Azam Khan, son of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, was released from Hardoi District Jail on February 25, 2025, after being incarcerated for approximately 17 months. His release has garnered considerable attention, with a large gathering of party leaders, supporters, and media personnel present outside the jail premises to welcome him.

Legal Proceedings Leading to Incarceration

Abdullah Azam Khan, a former legislator from the Swar Assembly constituency in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in October 2023. The arrest was primarily linked to a case involving alleged discrepancies in his birth certificate, which led to charges of forgery and related offenses. Subsequently, multiple cases were registered against him, including allegations concerning enemy property.

The legal journey has been arduous, with 45 cases filed against Abdullah, encompassing a range of allegations from forgery to property disputes. Notably, one of the prominent cases pertained to the alleged theft of a machine, which added to the complexities of his legal battles.

Judicial Relief and Bail Grant

In a recent turn of events, the MP/MLA Special Magistrate Trial Court in Rampur, presided over by Judge Shobhit Bansal, granted bail to Abdullah Azam Khan in the enemy property case. This decision was pivotal, as it addressed one of the major legal hurdles preventing his release. The court’s order was subsequently communicated to the Hardoi District Jail authorities, facilitating the procedural aspects of his release.

It’s noteworthy that prior to this, the Supreme Court of India had also granted bail to Abdullah in related cases. However, procedural delays, including the verification of bail documents and additional legal formalities, had extended his stay in incarceration. The recent court order effectively cleared these impediments, paving the way for his release.
