Dallewal’s Condition Deteriorates on 54th Day of Hunger Strike

Patiala—Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s health has taken a severe downturn as his hunger strike entered its 54th day. Stationed at the Punjab-Haryana Khanouri border, Dallewal experienced multiple episodes of vomiting on Friday night. His water intake has drastically reduced from two liters daily to less than one.

Increasing Support for the Hunger Strike at Khanouri Border

Dallewal’s hunger strike has garnered increasing support from the farming community. Alongside 111 farmers from Punjab, 10 farmers from Haryana have joined the protest at the Khanouri border. This growing solidarity underscores the widespread discontent among the agricultural community.

Leadership Meetings Amid Farmer Protests

Simultaneously, key leaders from the Khanouri and Shambhu Morcha, along with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), convened in Patiala’s Patara region. The primary agenda focused on planning the upcoming tractor march scheduled for January 26. However, the meeting ended without reaching a consensus on unity between SKM and the border leaders. SKM leaders requested additional time to deliberate further.

Plans for Tractor March and Political Engagement

In a bid to amplify their demands, SKM leaders have outlined plans to submit memorandums to Members of Parliament in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha by Monday. Sarwan Singh Pandher revealed that another group of 101 farmers is set to march toward Delhi on January 21. This move is anticipated to intensify the ongoing protest and draw national attention to their cause.

Key Issues Underlying the Farmer Protest

The hunger strike and ongoing protests reflect deep-seated issues within the agricultural sector. While unity among farmer leaders remains a challenge, the collective actions taken by the farming community demonstrate their resilience and determination to bring about significant change.

What’s Next for the Farmer Movement?

The next steps for the farmer movement remain uncertain. The outcome of the planned tractor march and the success of the political engagement will be crucial in determining the future course of their protest. The farming community remains vigilant, awaiting further developments as their leaders strategize on the best way forward.
