New Delhi. The Congress is mobilizing for the Uniform Civil Code. Significantly, UCC is being discussed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on July 3, before which the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group will meet today. The meeting will be held at former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10, Janpath in New Delhi. It is believed by the Congress that the government may introduce a bill on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the monsoon session of Parliament.
The Bill is likely to be referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee which will hear the views of various stakeholders on the Uniform Civil Code. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice summoned representatives of the Law Commission and the Law Ministry on July 3 over the recent notice issued by the law panel.
The Law Commission had issued a notice seeking the opinion of the stakeholders on the issue of Uniform Civil Code. As per the schedule of the Standing Committee on Law and Personnel, it will hear the views of the Law Panel and representatives of the Legal Affairs and Legislative Departments of the Ministry of Law on the public notice issued by the Law Commission of India on June 14, 2023.
