NDMC formulates Recycling Plan for Lodhi Garden Lake Water

“Aiming at maintaining the ecological balance and to makeover the New Delhi area an environmental friendly, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has formulated a detailed plan in order to recycle the water of Lodhi Garden Lake under the Jal Shakti Abhiyaan. Lodhi Garden a British-era public park has had been emerged the green lungs of New Delhi having rich fauna and flora is spread of 90 acres of land.”  

This has been informed by the NDMC Chairman,  Shri Vijay Kumar Dev, while speaking to the media persons after visiting the Lodhi Garden in New Delhi today. He has also planted saplings of Rudraksh and Kalpvirksh trees on the occasion.

While reviewing the water conservation plan of the lake, the Chairman has asked the officers concerned of the Council to ensure timely completion of the work and also instructed that a separate enclosure for stray dogs be maintained in a proper manner.

Expressing his pleasure over the maintenance and upkeeping of the Lodhi Garden by the Horticulture Department of the Council, Shri Dev said that it is really a very beautiful and well maintained garden, which is located in the heart of the capital city. And added that it is an appropriate place, where one can relax from the metropolitan stress in his leisure hours. Thousands of vibrant morning and evening joggers have had been visiting regularly in the garden and had been benefited with the fresh air and healthy environment, he said.

The Rotary Club South Delhi Chapter has provided Water Treatment Plant and the bottom sludge will be converted into useful compost. The Rotary Club had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NDMC for cleaning the water of the lake through treatment plant.The Bio Remediation of the lake water will be carried out through the natural microbial / enzymes so as to control the foul smell and the growth of harmful algae without affecting the aquatic life.

Outlining the details of the Duck Habitation in the Garden, Secretary-NDMC, Smt.Rashmi Singh has informed that the Council has developed an enclosure of natural environment for the ducks, wherein a number of spices of ducks have been habituated. And added that efforts are being made to protect these ducks and their eggs from the stray animals, dogs and other hazards.
