The G-20 summit, a pinnacle of global diplomacy and cooperation, is poised to make its mark in New Delhi, the capital city of India. In anticipation of this prestigious event, an intricate web of security measures has been meticulously woven to ensure the safety of world leaders and the seamless execution of this international gathering.

A Fortress of Security

New Delhi, the heart of India’s political landscape, has been transformed into a fortress of security in preparation for the G-20 summit. A myriad of central security agencies, including the Delhi Police and Para Military, have converged on the city to safeguard the proceedings.

To fortify the security perimeter, New Delhi district witnessed the deployment of a substantial number of Para Military and Delhi Police personnel. Late on a Thursday night, stringent barricades were erected, effectively sealing off the district from the general public. The entry of civilians in their vehicles was categorically prohibited, necessitating stringent security checks for anyone on foot.

Even those disembarking from the metro at stations within New Delhi district, desiring to traverse on foot, would not escape the watchful eye of security. Security checkpoints would be encountered at various locations, ensuring a thorough screening process for all.

A Multi-Layered Security Blanket

The 16 hotels hosting the heads of state attending the summit have not been overlooked in this grand security plan. Elaborate multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place, with different agencies entrusted with specific responsibilities.

A notable deployment includes 40 Traffic Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), each overseeing a carcade. These DCPs will be stationed outside the hotels, ensuring the safe passage of each carcade to destinations such as Pragati Maidan and Rajghat. Each country’s carcade will have a designated traffic DCP responsible for their security.

Furthermore, near Pragati Maidan, three Traffic DCPs will manage all aspects of vehicle management and parking. This ensures that traffic-related logistics run smoothly during the summit.

An Assurance of Safety

Special Commissioner of Law and Order, Sagar Preet Hooda, affirms that no stone has been left unturned in ensuring the security of the G-20 summit. The late-night sealing of high-rise government buildings in New Delhi attests to the seriousness of these security measures.

Additionally, government high-rise buildings in Daryaganj and Kamla Market areas, adjacent to the central district, have been sealed for three days. Such precautions are standard practice during major events in New Delhi, aimed at safeguarding VVIP routes.

The entrance gates of select residential societies may also be sealed temporarily, in accordance with a list provided by the District Police. This measure is vital for maintaining security and facilitating the movement of dignitaries.

In conclusion, the G-20 summit in New Delhi is not merely a gathering of world leaders but also a testament to the meticulous planning and robust security infrastructure in place. The safety and security of all participants are paramount, and the measures taken reflect the commitment of the host nation, India, to ensuring the success of this global event.
