New Delhi,

The Prime Minister believes that by celebrating 14th August as the Day of Remembrance, there will be a communication of social harmony in the country. Also the younger generation will get an opportunity to understand the pain and sacrifices made by ordinary citizens at the time of partition.

During the partition of the country in 1947, due to the violent upheaval, lakhs of Hindus and Sikhs were massacred –  details of which have never been prepared to date. Kidnappings and conversions also took place at mass levels. Property worth crores was damaged. There were also planned killings, looting, etc. in Bengal.

Very few people of that generation who had gone through this painful trauma are alive today. Our responsibility is to preserve their memories.

The time has come to review the development of technology so that technology can reduce its technical and governance related side effects : Dr DP Sharma

In this regard, Dr. DP Sharma and Mr. Vijay Samnotra have also requested that the Prime Minister to announce building a memorial dedicated to the sacrifice of millions of people of Punjab and East Bengal.

Along with this, an online digital memorial should also be set up to chronicle the painful and tragic events before and after the announcement of partition: their memories and experiences. This will be the biggest important step for our generation today. Along with this, the history of that time, the divisive policy of the British should also be highlighted.

It is essential to share the pain of Partition. The younger generation will get a lesson from this. For this, we wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and he accepted it. They have announced to celebrate Partition Horror Memorial Day, hopefully, they will take unprecedented steps regarding the memorial as well.
