The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled ‘How Neighbours Converge, The Politics and Economics of Regionalism’ authored by Ambassador I. P. Khosla at a function here today. Addressing on the occasion, he said that why has the rest of the World succeeded in initiating regional cooperation and why we in South Asia failed. Something needs to be done and we have to try something different. The political will needs to be invested than that has been done so far. He said that this book is a welcome contribution on the subject. He congratulated the author and the publishers on this excellent book and hoped that it will find a wide readership.
The book explains regionalism with an emphasis on the various economic theories and models as well as other theories that have been propounded over the years since 1945. It has detailed case studies of three important regional cooperation ventures : SAARC, ASEAN and the European Union, in the hope that these will flesh out many of the theories.
