The weather in North India is set for a major shift as thunderstorms, heavy rains, and lightning are predicted across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for five consecutive days. Meanwhile, Delhi and Northwest India will experience a heat surge, with maximum temperatures climbing steadily.
Western Disturbance Triggers Storms and Rainfall
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh Western Disturbance is becoming active over the Western Himalayan region from March 24 night. This will bring light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from March 24 to 28.

Temperature to Rise Across India
The IMD predicts that maximum temperatures will rise by 3-5°C across Northwest India in the next four days. Similarly, a 2-4°C increase is expected in Central India and interior Maharashtra over the next four to five days. Gujarat will see a 2-3°C rise in mercury before a slight dip.

Delhi Weather: Sun to Scorch the Capital
Delhi residents will experience rising temperatures as the sun dominates the skies. The city’s maximum temperature will hover around 34°C on Monday, while the minimum will be 17°C. From Wednesday onwards, temperatures will escalate further, potentially exceeding 38°C, making the heat unbearable.
- Sunday’s maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 34.3°C, 2.8°C above normal.
- The Ridge recorded the highest temperature at 34.8°C.
- Aya Nagar, Lodhi Road, and Palam recorded temperatures of 34.0°C, 33.6°C, and 32.6°C, respectively.
- Minimum temperature was lowest in Aya Nagar at 13.9°C.
Lightning Strikes Claim Lives in Chhattisgarh
A tragic incident occurred in Korba district, Chhattisgarh, where two people lost their lives due to lightning strikes near an ancient Devi temple. Four others were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at Medical College Hospital in Korba.
- A group of 40-50 devotees had gathered at the temple when the incident occurred.
- Six people took shelter under a tree, where lightning struck, killing two on the spot.
- The injured were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
