INVC WEATHER DESK
INVC News | April 14, 2025
India is witnessing a dramatic shift in weather conditions as temperatures surge above 40°C in several states, especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan, triggering early heatwave concerns. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a new Western Disturbance is expected to become active from April 16, bringing snowfall to the Himalayas and rainfall across several plains, offering short-term relief before the heat spikes again.
🔥 Scorching Conditions in the Northwest
The rising mercury has made life difficult in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, where temperatures are expected to rise consistently in the coming days. While the recent dust storms brought temporary respite, IMD warns of intensifying heat after mid-April.
🌧️ Rain and Hailstorm Across 12 States
In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain along with hailstorms were reported in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, and even parts of Himachal Pradesh. Several areas in eastern Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand also experienced isolated rain and storms.

As a result of the rain activity, daytime temperatures fell by 3–5°C in parts of Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and western Assam — providing a short-lived relief from the scorching sun. But the IMD has warned that this relief won’t last long.

The new western disturbance will impact Himalayan states first, bringing snowfall in higher altitudes of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Simultaneously, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and northeastern Madhya Pradesh. Southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Andhra Pradesh are also expected to witness showers.
