Heavy snowfall and rainfall continue across several hilly regions of North India. Authorities have issued warnings for intense snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, signaling the growing impact of Chillai Kalan, the 40-day harsh winter period.
In Himachal Pradesh, areas such as Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, and Kinnaur are likely to witness snowfall accompanied by snowstorms, with visibility expected to drop below 400 meters. Uttarakhand’s higher altitudes may receive light snowfall, while lower regions face frost conditions.
🥶 Cold Day Conditions in Plains, Dense Fog Disrupts Life
Cold day–like conditions persist across several plain states, particularly Punjab and Haryana, where dense fog has significantly impacted road and rail traffic.
Gurdaspur, Punjab: Minimum temperature dropped to 6.8°C
Narnaul, Haryana: Minimum temperature recorded at 5.2°C
In Rajasthan, temperatures have shown a slight rise, but districts such as Sikar and Churu continue to experience cold nights, with minimum temperatures hovering around 9°C and morning haze remaining common.
🌫️ Delhi-NCR Sees Reduced Visibility Due to Fog
Delhi-NCR witnessed moderate to dense fog during the early morning hours, reducing visibility to 200–300 meters. The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of around 9°C, keeping winter chill intact.
🚨 Severe Fog Alerts Issued in Uttar Pradesh
Weather conditions remain most severe in Uttar Pradesh, where red and orange alerts for very dense fog have been issued in more than 40 districts.
According to forecasts:
Eastern Uttar Pradesh may continue to face severe cold and dense fog until December 23
Western Uttar Pradesh could see a further temperature drop of 3–5°C after December 24
Authorities have advised caution for commuters due to reduced visibility and cold stress.
