Virat Kohli Returns to T20 Squad Ahead of South Africa Tour, BCCI Backs Experience

Virat Kohli T20 comeback,

In a major development for Indian cricket, Virat Kohli has been recalled to the T20 squad for the upcoming South Africa tour, marking his return to the shortest format after almost a year’s break.

The BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar announced the 16-member squad late Monday night, emphasizing a “strategic mix of experience and emerging talent.”

“Kohli’s experience and leadership will be invaluable as we build toward the 2026 T20 World Cup,” said Agarkar.

The squad also includes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Hardik Pandya as vice-captain. The tour, beginning November 10, will feature three T20s and three ODIs.

Fans have taken to social media celebrating Kohli’s return, with hashtags like #KingIsBack trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Kohli, who last played a T20 in January 2024, had focused on Tests and ODIs. His recent form — including back-to-back centuries in the Australia series — convinced selectors that his inclusion would boost India’s middle order.

“Virat’s hunger for runs is unmatched,” said former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. “He remains one of the fittest and most driven players in the world.”

BCCI insiders say the team is looking to strike a balance between aggressive young batters and seasoned campaigners ahead of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

India’s probable XI for the first T20 includes Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Fans are hoping the tour sets the tone for India’s campaign in 2026, where they aim to end a 17-year drought in T20 World Cup titles.
