US to Supply Missiles to Pakistan: Congress Slams Modi Govt, Calls It ‘Foreign Policy Disaster

The Congress party launched a scathing attack on the Modi government following reports that the United States will supply Raytheon-manufactured missiles to Pakistan. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh called the development a diplomatic failure and questioned how quickly India’s global influence is declining.

“Look how rapidly India’s diplomatic setbacks are increasing,” Ramesh said, sharing copies of two US notifications that mention Pakistan’s inclusion in the missile supply list.

Congress Questions the Government Over Missile Supply

Ramesh revealed that the US Department of War (formerly the Department of Defense before President Donald Trump’s administration) had issued a public notification on May 7, 2025, for the supply of Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AIM-120 AMRAAM) to countries such as Canada, Taiwan, Poland, Sweden, Japan, Germany, Britain, Italy, and Australia.

He claimed that in a recent notification issued on September 30, 2025, new names like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Turkey, and Israel were added to the list — which he described as “a clear sign of India’s foreign policy failure.”

Pakistan Among Nations in the New Defense Deal

According to Pakistan’s Express Tribune, the new arms deal between the US and Pakistan includes the supply of AIM-120 missiles, with the contract also covering countries such as Britain, Germany, Finland, Australia, Romania, Qatar, Oman, Korea, Greece, Switzerland, Japan, and Israel.

The report adds that all missile deliveries are expected to be completed by May 2030.

Congress: ‘Despite Strong Ties with the US, India Suffers Diplomatic Losses’

Ramesh accused the Modi government of mishandling foreign relations, saying:

“Even after strengthening India-US ties, the sale of advanced US weapons to Pakistan shows the declining strength of India’s diplomacy.”

Congress has labeled the development a “serious diplomatic setback” and demanded an explanation from the government.

Earlier Controversy Over Russia-Pakistan Defense Links

This comes days after another controversy regarding an alleged defense deal between Russia and Pakistan. The BJP hit back at the Congress, accusing it of spreading misinformation.

BJP leader Amit Malviya dismissed reports of Russia supplying RD-93MA engines to Pakistan, saying Jairam Ramesh had cited a propaganda-based website with no official or credible sources.
