The Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati (Assam) has convicted Shri Navendra Kumar & Shri M.L.Sharma, both then DEs, OFC, Department of Telecom (now BSNL), Guwahati; Shri Raj Kumar Das, Contractor and sentenced them to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000/- each U/s 120B, 420 IPC and Section 13(2) R/w 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in a CBI case.
The case was registered on 31.07.2001 and on completion of investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 25.11.2004 on the allegations that the accused cheated the department of Telecom (now BSNL) by showing / claiming different nature of soil & RCC protection & also submitting bogus and fabricated bills / MBs to the tune of Rs. 1,41,831/- in the matter of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) trenching & laying works in Sub Section 32 & 33 of Jorhat-Dimapur-Kohima rout on National Highway No. 39 in the year 1995-1998.
In another case, the Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati (Assam), has convicted Shri M.L. Sharma, then DE, OFC, DOT, Guwahati & Shri Mrinmoy Bhuyan, then JTO, OFC, DOT, Dimapur, and sentenced them to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000/- each U/s. 120B, 420 IPC and Section 13(2) R/w 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988
The instant case was registered on 31.07.2001. After completion of investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 25.11.2004 against the both accused persons on the allegations that the accused cheated the department of Telecom (now BSNL) by showing / claiming different nature of soil than actual soil & RCC protection by submitting bogus & fabricated bills / MBs to the tune of Rs. 28,81,769/- in the matter of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) trenching & laying works in differnent Sub Sections of Jorhat-Dimapur-Kohima rout on National Highway No. 39 in the year 1995-1998.
The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
