Washington D.C., April 9, 2025 — In a sweeping move that has sent shockwaves across America and the international community, the Donald Trump administration has officially scrapped legal stay permits for over 9 lakh immigrants who had entered the U.S. under the CBP One App policy initiated during the Biden era. These individuals have now been asked to leave the United States “immediately,” in what experts are calling one of the largest mass cancellations of immigration parole in recent history.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the use of executive parole under the CBP One App — which had granted temporary legal entry and work rights to nearly a million migrants from January to December 2023 — is now officially null and void. “It’s time for you to leave the United States,” read an email sent to a Honduran family, which has since gone viral on social media.
While there is no confirmation yet of any Indian nationals being affected, the blowback is being felt across Central and South America, especially among families who had entered the U.S. legally via the Mexican border and were living and working under Biden’s compassionate border policy.
A Policy Torn Apart
Introduced as a digital humanitarian initiative by the Biden administration, the CBP One App allowed vetted migrants to seek appointments and safe, legal entry. Under Trump, the policy has been dismantled on Day 1 of his presidency, leaving thousands stranded in Mexico and others in legal limbo within the U.S.
This decision is part of Trump’s aggressive immigration reset, which also includes:
Termination of parole permits for 5.32 lakh immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela — deadline: April 24.
Cancellation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 600,000 Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians. Although a federal judge has temporarily blocked the action, 350,000 Venezuelans were set to lose their TPS on Monday.
Homeland Security Hits Back
In a scathing statement, DHS accused the Biden administration of “weaponizing parole authority” and creating “the worst border crisis in U.S. history.” The department emphasized that the new administration’s goal is to restore the rule of law and protect the sovereignty of U.S. borders.
“President Trump is reversing the chaos. These actions are necessary to ensure national security and public trust,” a DHS spokesperson stated.
What Lies Ahead?
As emails flood inboxes of affected families, immigrant advocacy groups are preparing for legal battles, and humanitarian organizations warn of a looming crisis at the southern border. Thousands who had entered legally now face deportation or detention — with little clarity on what comes next.
