Toyota Announces Recall of Camry Hybrid and Corolla Cross Models in the US
Toyota has announced a voluntary recall of 51,644 Camry Hybrid vehicles in the United States, citing a technical defect that could lead to sudden power loss and, in rare cases, an increased risk of fire. The recall also affects 3,761 units of the 2026 Corolla Cross, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall applies to 2025–2026 model-year Camry Hybrid vehicles and select 2026 Corolla Cross models.
Inverter Assembly Defect Identified as Root Cause
According to NHTSA filings, the issue is linked to the hybrid system’s inverter assembly, a critical component responsible for converting electrical energy from the battery to power the electric motor.
Toyota said a bolt inside the inverter assembly may loosen over time, potentially creating an open circuit. This interruption can affect the vehicle’s power delivery and overall drivability.
Vehicles May Enter Limp Mode or Lose Power Suddenly
If an open circuit occurs, the affected vehicle may suddenly lose power or enter “limp mode,” a safety setting that limits engine output. Under certain conditions, the defect could also result in a short circuit, increasing the risk of overheating or fire.
Toyota noted that warning lights and alerts are designed to notify drivers if the issue occurs.
34 Reported Incidents, 15 Warranty Claims Filed
The automaker reported receiving 34 field incident reports related to the defect, along with 15 warranty claims. While no serious injuries or major accidents have been confirmed, Toyota said it initiated the recall as a precautionary safety measure.
Fix Still Under Development; Owners to Be Notified by February 2026
Toyota said it is still developing a permanent fix for the issue. Once finalized, affected vehicle owners will be informed of the corrective procedure.
The company plans to notify all impacted customers by mail no later than February 13, 2026.
Repairs Will Be Performed Free of Charge
Toyota confirmed that once a remedy is available, all required repairs will be completed free of charge under warranty.
