Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced that two more new women police stations would be set up at Gurgaon and Faridabad thus raising the number of such police stations to four in the state. While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that the two such existing police stations were at Sonipat and Khanpur Kalan. Reiterating the concern of the State Government for security and safety of women and girls in the State, he said that these four police stations would exclusively handle cases of crime against women and have female staff. The purpose of setting up such police stations is to instill a sense of confidence amongst the women and girls that they can get their complaints themselves registered without any hesitation at any of these police stations. He said that Haryana Police has also launched its four digit 1091 helpline for “women in crisis”, which is functional round-the-clock at all district Police Control Rooms in the State. This helpline number had been started to integrate various measures for ensuring the safety and security of women facing threat of crime or any other danger. Women can make a call on phone No. 1091 for immediate police help, whenever they are in trouble.
The decision to launch this helpline number service was taken recently in a high level meeting presided over by Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda to instill confidence and sense of security amongst the women in the State. With this helpline, Haryana has now joined Delhi and Chandigarh in extending this facility to its citizens. Apart from this, the helpline is accessible from anywhere in the country or abroad and exclusively women police officials have been deputed in each police control room to attend the complaints round-the-clock. He said that this specially deputed staff would not only receive calls, but would also further inform the nearest police station or police post or PCR van to immediately respond to the caller. Thus, this helpline is instrumental in empowering the women in the state at all times. It would also put pressure on the notorious elements, he added.
He said that the State Government had already appointed Additional Director General of Police, Crime Against Women, Mr. K. Selvaraj exclusively for reviewing and monitoring the action taken by local police against crime against women in the state.
