On Ayurveda Day (29 October), Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav can make a big announcement for the doctors of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani) colleges and hospitals. There is a preparation to increase their retirement age from 62 to 65 years. This proposal is pending at the government level for more than five years. The retirement age of faculty in medical colleges, higher education, technical education and veterinary education colleges is already 65 years, so the teachers and doctors of AYUSH colleges are also demanding to increase the age limit to 65 years.
The retirement age of doctors in the hospitals of the Health Department has also been increased from 62 to 65 years. The main reason for this is that the number of doctors in hospitals is less than the requirement. There are about 300 teachers in seven government Ayurveda colleges, one homeopathy and one Unani college in the state. Similarly, there are about 800 medical officers in the district hospital and other dispensaries. Of these, 15 to 20 are retiring every year. The government has appointed 602 AYUSH medical officers this year through the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission. If the retirement age increases in this way, about 1700 doctors will benefit from it.
